Calathea ‘Medallion’

Description:
Calathea 'Medallion' is a stunning tropical houseplant known for its large, round leaves with intricate patterns. The foliage features deep green tops adorned with silvery-green markings, while the undersides display a rich burgundy hue. This plant is part of the prayer plant family, meaning its leaves move throughout the day in response to light. With its vibrant colours and unique foliage, Calathea 'Medallion' adds a bold, elegant touch to any indoor space. It thrives in warm, humid environments and is non-toxic, making it a great choice for pet-friendly households.

Watering:
Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy. Water when the top inch of soil feels dry, using filtered or distilled water when possible. Avoid letting the soil dry out completely, as this can cause leaf curling or browning edges. Reduce watering slightly in Winter.

Fertilizer:
Feed with a diluted balanced liquid fertilizer every 4 weeks during the growing season (Spring and Summer). Avoid over-fertilizing, as excessive nutrients can cause leaf discolouration. Reduce feeding in Fall and Winter when growth slows.

Lighting:
Prefers bright, indirect light. Too much direct sunlight can scorch the leaves, while too little light may lead to dull colors and slower growth. An East- or North-facing window is ideal. If natural light is insufficient, supplement with a grow light.

Temperature:
Thrives in temperatures between 65-80°F (18-27°C). Keep away from cold drafts, heating vents, and sudden temperature fluctuations, as these can cause leaf stress and browning. Avoid temperatures below 60°F (16°C).

Humidity:
Requires high humidity (above 60%) to maintain healthy foliage. If the air is too dry, mist the plant regularly, use a humidity tray, or place it near a humidifier. Dry air can cause leaf edges to crisp and brown.
