Description:
Calathea vittata is a striking tropical houseplant known for its elegant, lance-shaped leaves with bold, white-striped variegation against a deep green background. This visually stunning foliage makes it a favourite among plant collectors and indoor gardeners. Like other Calatheas, it is part of the prayer plant family, meaning its leaves move in response to light changes throughout the day. It thrives in warm, humid conditions and is pet-friendly, making it a beautiful and safe choice for homes with animals.

Watering:
Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy. Water when the top inch of soil feels dry, using filtered or distilled water when possible. Avoid letting the soil dry out completely, as this can cause leaf curling or browning edges. Reduce watering slightly in Winter.

Fertilizer:
Feed with a diluted balanced liquid fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (Spring and Summer). Avoid over-fertilization, as excess nutrients can lead to leaf discolouration. Reduce feeding in Fall and Winter when growth slows.

Lighting:
Prefers bright, indirect light. Too much direct sunlight can scorch its delicate leaves, while too little light may result in slower growth and less vibrant variegation. An East- or North-facing window is ideal. If natural light is insufficient, supplement with a grow light.

Temperature:
Thrives in temperatures between 65-80°F (18-27°C). Keep away from cold drafts, heating vents, and sudden temperature changes, as these can stress the plant and cause leaf damage. Avoid temperatures below 60°F (16°C).

Humidity:
Requires high humidity (above 60%) to maintain healthy foliage. If the air is too dry, mist the plant regularly, use a humidity tray, or place it near a humidifier. Low humidity can cause leaf edges to turn brown and crisp. Keeping humidity levels stable will promote lush, healthy growth.
