Ficus 'Ruby'

Description:
Ficus 'Ruby' is a striking variety of the Ficus elastica, commonly known as the Rubber Plant, known for its bold, colourful foliage. The leaves of Ficus 'Ruby' are a mix of deep green with hints of reddish-pink along the edges, giving it a beautiful, vibrant appearance. This low-maintenance plant adds a touch of tropical flair to any indoor space and is also known for its air-purifying qualities. As it grows, it can become a substantial, tree-like plant with glossy, leathery leaves that make it a showstopper in any room.

Watering:
Water when the top 1-2 inches of soil are dry. Ensure that the soil remains moist but not soggy, as this can lead to root rot. Use a pot with drainage holes to allow excess water to escape. Reduce watering in the Winter months when growth slows. Always make sure to check the soil moisture before watering to avoid overwatering.

Fertilizer:
Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (Spring and Summer). Reduce feeding in Fall and Winter when the plant's growth naturally slows. Over-fertilizing can lead to leggy growth or browning of the leaves, so stick to a mild feeding schedule.

Lighting:
Prefers bright, indirect light but can tolerate lower light conditions. Too much direct sunlight can scorch the leaves, while insufficient light can cause slower growth and a loss of vibrancy in the leaf colour. A spot near an East- or South-facing window is ideal.

Temperature:
Thrives in temperatures between 65-80°F (18-27°C). Keep away from cold drafts, air conditioning vents, and sudden temperature fluctuations, as these can stress the plant and cause leaf damage. Avoid temperatures below 55°F (13°C).

Humidity:
Prefers moderate humidity but can adapt to average indoor humidity levels. If the air is too dry, mist the plant occasionally, use a humidity tray, or place it near a humidifier to keep the humidity up. Dry air can lead to browning of the leaf edges and tips.
