Description:
Jade Trailing, also known as the "Propeller Plant" or Crassula perfoliata var. falcata, is a unique succulent known for its trailing, fleshy, arrow-shaped leaves that have a distinctive bluish-green colour with red edges. The plant has a cascading growth habit, making it perfect for hanging baskets or as a cascading plant in containers. Jade Trailing is a low-maintenance, drought-tolerant plant that thrives in dry conditions and can adapt to a variety of indoor environments, adding a touch of desert beauty to any space.
Watering:
Water when the top 1-2 inches of soil are dry. As a succulent, Jade Trailing is drought-tolerant and prefers to dry out between waterings. Be cautious not to overwater, as this can lead to root rot. Ensure the pot has good drainage to prevent water from sitting at the bottom. Reduce watering in the Winter months when the plant’s growth slows.
Fertilizer:
Feed with a balanced, diluted liquid fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (Spring and Summer). In Fall and Winter, reduce feeding since the plant is not actively growing. Too much fertilizer can cause the plant to become leggy or stunt its growth, so it's best to use it sparingly.
Lighting:
Prefers bright, indirect light but can tolerate some direct sunlight. Too much direct sunlight can cause leaf scorch, but some sun exposure helps the plant thrive and maintain vibrant colours. If the plant is kept in low light, it may become leggy and stop producing new growth. A spot near a sunny window with good light is ideal.
Temperature:
Thrives in temperatures between 60-75°F (15-24°C). Avoid exposing the plant to temperatures below 50°F (10°C) as it is sensitive to the cold. It also does not like sudden temperature fluctuations, so protect it from drafts or air conditioning vents.
Humidity:
Prefers low to moderate humidity. As a succulent, it can tolerate dry indoor environments, and too much humidity can cause it to rot. Jade Trailing does well in standard indoor humidity levels, but if humidity is too high, ensure the plant has adequate air circulation to prevent moisture buildup around the leaves.
