Philodendron ‘Red Sun’

Description:
Philodendron 'Red Sun' is a striking and unique cultivar known for its vibrant, deep red young leaves that gradually mature to a rich green. The plant’s bold colour contrast makes it an eye-catching addition to any indoor space. Its leaves are smooth and glossy, giving it a tropical, glossy appearance. As a vining plant, 'Red Sun' can be grown in a hanging basket, as a trailing vine, or trained to climb a trellis. It is relatively easy to care for and is a great option for both beginner and experienced plant owners, offering both beauty and air-purifying benefits.

Watering:
Water when the top 1-2 inches of soil feel dry to the touch. Philodendron 'Red Sun' prefers to have its soil evenly moist, but overwatering should be avoided as it can lead to root rot. Ensure the pot has good drainage, and let excess water drain out to prevent waterlogging. In Winter, reduce watering as the plant’s growth slows down.

Fertilizer:
Feed with a balanced, diluted liquid fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (Spring and Summer). In the Fall and Winter months, reduce fertilizing as the plant's growth slows. Over-fertilizing can cause leggy growth, so stick to a moderate feeding schedule.

Lighting:
Prefers bright, indirect light but can tolerate some low light conditions. Too much direct sunlight can scorch its young, tender leaves, while inadequate light can cause the plant’s growth to slow. To maintain the best colouration of its red leaves, it’s best to place it in a spot where it receives filtered light. An East- or North-facing window is ideal for optimal growth.

Temperature:
Thrives in temperatures between 65-80°F (18-27°C). Philodendron 'Red Sun' is sensitive to cold, so avoid placing it in areas where temperatures drop below 50°F (10°C), as this can harm the plant. Keep it in a warm and stable environment to promote healthy growth.

Humidity:
Prefers moderate to high humidity. If the air is too dry, the plant may show signs of stress, such as browning leaf tips. Misting the leaves occasionally, using a humidity tray, or placing the plant near a humidifier can help create the optimal humidity level to support healthy growth.
