Description:
Tradescantia Green, also known as Tradescantia fluminensis, is a versatile and easy-to-grow houseplant known for its lush, green, trailing vines and soft, oval-shaped leaves. The plant has a vigorous growth habit and is often used as a hanging plant, ground cover, or in decorative containers. Tradescantia Green thrives in a variety of conditions, making it an ideal choice for beginner plant enthusiasts. Its simple yet attractive green foliage adds a tropical, lush feel to any space, and it’s known for its air-purifying qualities, removing toxins from the environment.
Watering:
Water when the top 1-2 inches of soil feel dry to the touch. Tradescantia Green prefers to stay consistently moist but should not be overwatered. Avoid letting the plant sit in water to prevent root rot. Ensure the pot has adequate drainage and always allow excess water to escape. In the Winter months, reduce watering as the plant’s growth slows.
Fertilizer:
Feed with a balanced, diluted liquid fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (Spring and Summer). In the Fall and Winter, reduce or stop fertilizing as the plant enters a period of slower growth. Over-fertilizing can lead to leggy growth, so be sure to follow the recommended dilution on the fertilizer.
Lighting:
Tradescantia Green prefers bright, indirect light but can also tolerate lower light conditions. Too much direct sunlight can scorch the leaves, so it’s best to place it in a spot with filtered sunlight. In low light, the plant may become leggy and lose some of its vibrancy, but it will still survive and thrive, albeit at a slower pace. A North- or East-facing window is ideal.
Temperature:
Thrives in temperatures between 65-75°F (18-24°C). Tradescantia Green prefers a warm environment and should be kept away from cold drafts, air conditioning vents, and temperatures below 50°F (10°C). A consistent, warm temperature helps maintain its lush growth.
Humidity:
Tradescantia Green is adaptable and can tolerate average household humidity. However, it will thrive in moderate to high humidity levels. In dry conditions, the leaves may start to develop brown edges. To increase humidity, you can mist the plant regularly, use a humidity tray, or place it near a humidifier.
